ANGRY WOMEN MEETING

3 December 2018. Berkeley, CA

Flyers for event. Emphasis placed on this event being transmitted via
word of mouth methods and annonymous posters

Flyer deatils

Part of the study for this project, stream of conscious  while thinking of the Kavanaugh trials and the heaviness of being a woman on a college campus at that time

Guidelines of the party posted on the door before women entered

Station to write love letters, anger letters, drawings, critiques, anything that came up for them during the event. those who chose to utlize it placed their messages in the wicker purse. these messages have been of great meaning to me.

The set up upon entrance

Low lighting, white paper on the walls, and seating on the floor and couches

The transition from dialogue on sexual assault and violence to dancing and mark-making would be a extreme transition to emotionally move from those states in such a condensed time. I created the role of an “listener” for whoever felt called to offer support to continue holding space for those women. The people who would want to take on this role, and be a listener/ empathizer/continue holding space could take on of the red heart pins and wear it, so if at any point, someone needed someone to talk to, they had someone.

Here are some of the messages people left me about their feelings, thoughts, and takeaways from the party.

Final installation hung up with all parts of the night from beginning to end

This project was my first attempt at facilitating a community healing event. I feel safest when I am with other women and have continually been shown the love, empathy, and strength that women offer each other, especially in groups.
